It all starts with healthy gums
Periodontitis is an advanced stage of gum disease where persistent, low-grade infection and inflammation of the gums threatens to affect the supporting structures of the teeth, including the bone.
Some people are more predisposed to the disease than others genetically and some health conditions and lifestyle factors can also contribute.
If your Dentist has referred you to Dr Barber, you will most likely require specialist Periodontal treatment. Our goal is to work with you to restore and maintain good gum health over time.
Your first consultation
During your initial consultation, Dr Barber will spend some time discussing your dental and medical history before carrying out a full periodontal analysis to ascertain the best course of treatment for your situation. A recent OPG xray gives gives him a deeper insight into your current periodontal status.
At the end of your consultation, he will recommend a treatment plan for you. We will prepare all the details of the proposed treatment, explain what’s involved and present you with a full outline including costings for you to consider.
What does treatment involve?
You may need to have an interventional treatment to restore your oral and gum health so that it can be managed in the future. The good news is that, if you are committed to your ongoing management of Periodontitis, this shouldn’t need to be done again.
Where there is significant buildup of calculus below the gum line, manual planing of the roots of the teeth is necessary, this is known as non-surgical periodontal therapy. We would schedule two sessions of treatment, one for the left side of the mouth and one for the right side of the mouth. These treatments typically take 60-90 minutes each, depending on your needs.
Approximately three months after this treatment, we would see you once more for a 45 minute review where Dr Barber can see improvement in the health of your gums and a significant reduction in inflammation. At this point, he can then recommend a maintenance schedule for you.

Make it stand out.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
